Eighteen teams have confirmed their participation in the Cook Islands Touch Association Boxing Day Mixed Touch Tournament on Wednesday.

Touch president Daphne Brown said there were two more spots left before they finalise the draw.

The day-long tournament will start at 9am with all teams assembled before the kickoff at 9.30pm at the Avatiu Rugby field.

“We have 18 registered teams and have two spots available for any other team that has not registered. Everyone is reminded to be in uniform. If there are any teams out there that are still thinking about playing, contact Julz Westrupp on 55055 or myself on 54171 for more information,” Brown said.

“The day will begin with a quick and deadly Shoot Out warm up competition. Its a $20 entry fee if you want to be in for a chance to win $100.

“Teams are also welcome to set up around the field and should do so before 9am.”

Last year’s winners Bulletz and runners up the Northern Stormers are expected to feature in the tournament alongside several other teams who are both local regulars and overseas newcomers to the competition.

With both the Touch World Cup and the Pacific Games scheduled for next year, Brown said they would see the Cook Islands squad members scattered throughout a range of teams.

The registration fee is $120 per team with a nominated referee. There is an additional $40 fee for those teams that do not provide a referee.

Registration is also open in the men’s, women’s and mixed for teams wanting to play in the regular Touch Season Competition which kicks off mid-January.
