Touch comp continues

Wednesday February 07, 2018 Written by Published in Touch Rugby

The Bluesky Touch competition continued on Monday, as the top teams began to establish themselves.

The opening game of the afternoon was an excellent encounter between the young Germinators and the very fit Manatoa, and experience prevailed over youth as Manatoa won by six tries to three.

But under the guidance of Andy Kapi and Geoff Halston, the Germinators’ game should grow over the next few weeks.

Team ATT, going up against last year’s men’s champions GAT, acquitted themselves well considering their youth.

A lapse in the brick-wall GAT defence was enough for Team ATT to catch GAT off guard, but the experience of GAT was too much for the young side, and they prevailed seven to one.

The final men’s game was between Team Transport and Manatoa, who were playing their second game of the afternoon. And they made it two out of two with a polished display to run down Team transport four to one.

In the women’s round, NukzPower flexed their muscles against the inexperienced FBI Green.

Although the youngsters played well it wasn’t enough to topple the controlled NukzPower ladies, who played a well-structured game and proved too strong as they ran six tries to FBI Green’s two.

In the match between FBI Red and Bounty Hunters the sides went into the break with the scores level.

The game continued in a seesaw fashion in the second half until the FBI Red defence faltered from fatigue, allowing Bounty Hunters to score and take the lead, winning four to three.

Tonight’s matches kick off at 5pm at Nikao Sports Field.
