Final hit out session in Touch

The Cook Islands Touch Association muster meet on Monday recorded a good turnout and organisers are hoping for similar numbers in the final build-up competition this afternoon.

The final friendly touch muster, which gives an opportunity to participating clubs to prepare before the season gets underway proper next week, will kick off at 5pm at Nikao Field.

The focus in today’s competition is organised games for the mixed teams.

“This allows the mixed teams to get a good run and playing time before the season proper kicks off,” Cook Islands Touch president Daphne Brown said.

“There are spaces available in the mixed grade to be filled, so it is not too late to register.

“Teams can still turn up to the muster and be slotted into the draw. Touch referees and those wanting to join the referees are invited to come to the muster games as well.”

Brown described the turnout on Monday for the men’s and women’s competitions as “overwhelming”.

“The overcast conditions set the scene for a good display of touch skills from both the men’s and women’s teams even though teams were missing players who are still on holiday.

“While it is early days, Team Transport and Manatoa are looking promising, which will have the seasoned last year’s men’s champions GAT and runners-up Germinators drawing on their experience.”

The women’s teams were looking evenly matched with all teams boasting many youngsters, Brown added.
