Final hit out for touch teams

PARTICIPATING teams are getting the much needed competition to help prepare themselves for the Bluesky Touch Season that gets underway next week.

Cook Islands Touch Association has organised two muster competitions this week to ensure the teams who have registered for the 2017 season get a perfect build up before it all begins on Monday.

The second friendly Touch Muster was held on Monday and the final one will be played this afternoon at Nikao Field.

“A good number turned out for a hot afternoon of touch starting with open men’s and women’s and finishing with mixed at the second friendly Touch Muster,” Cook Islands Touch president Daphne Brown said.

“Many gasping for air and exasperated over their lack of fitness. The women’s competition is panning out to be evenly matched competition with all teams boasting many new young faces.

“The men are still finding themselves.”

The final hit out session is still open to teams and players, especially in the mixed grade.

Brown said the emphasis was on the mixed teams allowing them to get a good run before the season kicks off next week.

“There are a few spaces available in the mixed grades to be filled so it’s not too late to register a team,” she said.

“The muster (today) is open to any mixed team yet to register and players wanting to get into a team.”
