The final round of pool matches in the mixed touch resulted into another competitive show as teams battled for top spots under slippery conditions at Nikao Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The afternoon shower failed to dampen the spirit of the competing teams which upped the competition with some glitzy steps and sheer pace to remain in the race for the top prize.

In the feature match of the round, defending champions 007 took on an impressive Nukz Power.

Both teams came on fired up, with Nukz Power posting the opening points in the match.

The 007 side, which normally has a bullet start, clawed back to level the score to set up an exciting battle in the remainder of the match.

Playing a solid defence game, 007 began to pressure and frustrate Nukz Power’s attacking ploy.

Upsetting the Nukz Power rhythm, 007 playmaker Andy Kapi began picking holes to run from dummy half and set up points for his side to win 4 -1.

In the opening match of day, the Mangaians clashed in a tense encounter between Team ATT and Mangaia.

With both teams boasting connections to the island, an anticipated tit-for-tat battle set things rolling in round five competition.

The match swung back and forth in exchange of tries, with Team ATT sticking to a more structured game of good drives while the young Mangaia guns relied on individual skill.

Individual brilliance from Mangaia stole the win in the end, beating Team ATT 8-7.

Airport Allstarz, bolstered with the return of chief Joseph Ngamata, took on the in-form ICI Transformers in what turned out to be a high scoring game.

Both teams attacked at will, using their speedsters. For Airport Allstarz, young speedy Josiah Pureau was brilliant squeezing his way through the slightest holes to score a host of tries.

Despite the valiant effort from both sides, the match ended in nine-all.

In the other close encounter, Aroa T Bags and Top Kopz were locked at two-all while Southcoast Scorpions recorded an easy 5-0 win over an understrength CITC Liquor team.

Bluesky which is boosted by the inclusion of Fijians who play rugby league in this country, defeated MFEM 5-3.
