ICI Transformers are proving tough nuts to crack in the domestic touch rugby mixed competition, following another win this week.

In the match of the round on Wednesday at Nikao Field, ICI Transformers outsmarted a plucky Southcoast Scorpions 10-4 to surge ahead on the points table.

The side did not waste any time to get down to business, playing a smart game with good driving settles to find holes and unleash their lethal combination of national rep Puna Hiro and young Tamaiva Mateariki.

The duo exploited the unusually unsettled Southcoast Scorpions to pile on the points and run away with the 10-4 win.

Hiro, Mateariki and Rima Browne were once again in form for the ICI Transformers.

Defending champions 007 continued their brilliant form with yet another win in round three competition overcoming Top Kopz 7-1.

From the opening whistle, the 007 playmaker and general Andy Kapi went straight into control mode, driving his team to execute and perfect their set piece play.

The experience of the 007 proved just too much for newcomers Top Kopz and despite their best efforts, the law enforcers were unable to get back in the game.

In another exciting match, the young Mangaia side are finding their way through in the competition after a 7-2 win over CITC Liquor.

Mangaia settled into their rehearsed plays using their younger boys to drive up the middle and put on the pace along the flanks to step around the CITC Liquor defence.

Despite a valiant effort, CITC Liquor was unable to repeat last week’s winning performance.

In the round’s most exciting match, Nukz Power made a lucky escape against Bluesky with a slender 7-6 win.

A better organised Bluesky team posted some early points, but the Nukz Power boys fought back to level the score at 6-all.

With only three minutes left in the game, the Nukz Power had to dig deep to break the Bluesky line, putting Jason Potoru away to earn the hard-earned win.

Team ATT defeated Airports Allstarz 5-0 while MFEM and Aroa T-Bags were locked 4-all in the other mixed matches.

The improving Team ATT came out in full force to post its first win against a diminished Airport Allstarz scoring some great tries while a determined MFEM were held on by an impressive Aroa T Bags.

The round two of the open men’s and women’s matches will be played on Monday.
