Despite the fact that a number of teams pulled out at the last minute, die hard touch rugby fans pulled together four teams for an afternoon of social touch in humid conditions.
The social environment at the tournament allowed touch players to really let loose and while it was a social event, some players couldn’t help themselves–adding some good natured spark to the
tournament.
Players in the national training squad were easy to spot with their sharp skills and of course matching training gear.
National touch association selectors are expected to name the national team to compete at the Papua New Guinea Pacific Games in June in a couple of weeks and those vying for a spot in the side were certainly making the most of Monday’s social run around.
The Easter tournament was then followed by the open women’s playoff games.
Winners from the playoffs will square off in the finals.
Meanwhile mixed touch teams have a few more weeks of games ahead and these matches will no doubt be used by national training squad members to polish up their skills.
Mixed touch returns to Nikao field tomorrow
afternoon.
