Touch rugby training today

Close to 70 players were identified as potential touch rugby national squad members after the highly successful Boxing Day touch rugby tournament.

Cook Islands Touch Rugby Association are well into their training and are calling the players named below to turn out to training today at the Takuvaine Field at 5pm.

Organisers will be looking for dedicated hard working athletes to select into the open women, open men and mixed teams to represent the Cook Islands at the Pacific Games next year in Papua New Guinea.

Players called to be part of the Pacific Games training squad are (women) – Tessa Vaetoru, Adoniah Lewis, Edith Nicholas, Rima Moekaa,  Taromi Urirau, Vania Robati, Julz Westrupp, Marisa Iroa, Eteta Tuteru, Teiti Tupuna, Poko Tangata, Jennifer Akavi, Mama Ri Nganu, Rosa Kauvai, Rangi Apera, Lora Tauira, Latisha Maui, Teiva Maui, Rufina Daniel, Tetiniariki Tararo, Alex Masters, Eri Short, Natharia Short, Tuakana Noovao, Jane Tiaore, Mazel Tiaore, Mii Piri, Ana Kapi, Sacha Vaile, Hayley Wagstaff, Denise Pepe, (outer island women) – Jan Dawn, Tania Cowan, Matamanea Andrew, Vaka Nootai, (men) – Kristopher George, Apii Rau, Setephano Noovao, Henderson Manea, David Piakura, Richard William, Marcelo Rairoa, Mathew Mokoroa, Tanire Mokoroa, Julius Vaetoru, BJ Heather, Basil Matapo, Johnny Kapi, Deveron Aererua, James Strickland, Gero Ngatupuna, James Toki, Christopher Kapi, Daryl Areai, Alfred William, Pokoroa Pauka, Mark Leito, Bobby Hansen, Aitu Newbigging, Conrad Piri, Andrew Mokoroa, Teariki Nicholas, Cahjun Willis, Andy Kapi, (outer island men) – Joshua Jim (Atiu) and Hugh Henry (Aitutaki).

The 2015 touch rugby season kicks off on January 12 with registrations for the open women, open men and mixed divisions now open.

Games will be played twice weekly on Monday and Wednesday during the season.
