Cooks U16 win football opener

The Cook Islands under-16 women’s national team earned a 2-0 victory over the visiting U16 women’s squad from Tahiti in Saturday’s first international friendly at the CIFA Complex in Matavera.

The visiting Tahiti national under-16 team wasted no time settling in and got straight into training yesterday, in preparation for their first meet against the Cook Islands U16 today at 3pm at the CIFA Complex.

The Cook Islands Under-16 side will be using the upcoming international matches against Tahiti as a buildup for the OFC U16 Women’s Championship in August.

The 2017 Rarotonga Football Season returns when the players kick off on Wednesday in the Under-8 mixed, U11 mixed and U17 men’s divisions at the CIFA Complex in Matavera.

India crushed a shambolic South Africa by eight wickets at The Oval to reach the semifinals of the Champions Trophy.

Almost 90 children turned up at the Matavera School grounds for an afternoon of fun filled sports activities on Tuesday this week.
