Table toppers Tupapa Maraerenga and Puiakura will battle today for the top spot in the Rarotonga football premier men’s competition.

The feature match of round five will be held at Raemaru Park in Arorangi.

Both teams have three wins and a draw each with defending champions Tupapa leading on goal advantage.

Tupapa Maraerenga will be hungry for a win after their one-all draw against the Titikaveka premier men last Friday.

The side will be led by the likes of Graham Viking, Geoff Strickland, and Paavo Mustonen supported by Grover Harmon as they try to break down Puaikura’s defense.

Puaikura will be equally hungry to find the back of the net against the much-fancied Tupapa team.

Dwayne Tiputoa, who was the man of the match last week for Puaikura after leading the team to a 2-1 win against Nikao Sokattak, will spearhead the team’s campaign today.

Puaikura’s key attacking players Campbell Best and Conroy Tiputoa will also be hoping to get on the scoresheet in the crucial match.

In the women’s match, Puiakura will be hoping to extend their lead with a win against the fierce Tupapa team.

The side also has three wins and a draw from four matches so far in the competition. Tupapa has two wins and two draws.

Puaikura will be bringing their A-game to get back to winning ways after their 2-all draw against Nikao last week.

Victoria Fatiaki and Coral Seath, the former Dunedin Technical skipper, have formed a lethal strikeforce for the side. They will be key players to watch out for in today’s match.

Tupapa will be led by their attacking midfielders’, the Harmon sisters, Temata and Elizabeth, alongside Marissa Iroa in the striking position.

In the other match, Titikaveka will take on Avatiu FC at The Swamp. Both premier men’s teams will be eager for win to improve their standings on the points table.

In the women’s clash, Avatiu will be hoping to maintain their winning streak alive against a strong looking Titikaveka side.
