The Rarotonga football round cup competition gets back underway today with the round two U17 men’s catch up matches.

It comes after a three-week break in which the Oceania women’s U19 championships grabbed the country’s hearts and minds, and distracted sports fans from the usual business of senior club rugby.

Today’s football matches will be held at the CIFA Complex and will kick off at 4:45pm.

Nikao Sokattak is set to play Titikaveka on CIFA Field 1, Matavera will go head to head with Tupapa Maraerenga on CIFA Field 2 while Avatiu face off with Puaikura at the Takitumu School grounds.

The break had given teams the opportunity to work on many aspects of the game and build on past success and areas of improvement, Cook Islands Football Association spokesman George Ellis said.

“For these clubs it has been a long break – a break that could see teams rise or fall.”

With teams itching to get back out on the pitch, today’s matches are promised to feature some exciting football action to resume the season.

The public is invited down to the CIFA complex and the Takitumu school field to enjoy an afternoon of football.
