Teams from Avarua, Arorangi, Imanuela Akatemia, Nikao, Papaaroa, Rutaki, St Joseph, Takitumu, and Te Uki Ou will face off in a battle to be crowned this year’s junior primary schools champions.
Last year saw the Avarua boys’ team take back the trophy after going down to Nikao in the final the year before.
The Avarua girls however defended their title, but the challenge will be on both teams to do it again this year.
CIFA development officer Tahiri Elikana says that the skills in the local juniors competition are evident and stars are starting to shine.
“This is good for Cook Islands football and could lead to more promising academy teams,” Elikana said.
The annual competition will give the CIFA technical department the opportunity to identify and select players to participate in its development programmes and for those who don’t necessarily play the game at the club level, the chance to enjoy football.
All are welcome to come and support the teams and watch a day of football.
