Nikao Sokattak premier men’s team scored two second half goals to beat Tupapa Maraerenga 3-1 on Saturday at the CIFA Complex.

Paavo Mustonen started off the scoring for Tupapa Maraerenga in the 27th minute from a spot kick.

Nikao Sokattak immediately came back and leveled the game through a Julius David goal, assisted by Mark Leito.

Mustonen had a golden opportunity to gain lead in the 38th minute, but the lanky striker was unable to capitalise on that chance.

Both sides had good spells of possession with some half chances, which went mostly in Nikao Sokattak’s favour.

They went into the break tied at 1-all.

Wasting no time in the second period, David set up an opportunity for Toru Mateariki in the 48th minute and the youngster showed neat footwork in the box before lofting a fine shot past Tupapa goalie Manaariki Pierre to gain the lead 2-1.

Minutes later Nikao Sokattak earned a penalty kick and David stepped up to the plate but his effort was denied by Pierre.

Tupapa Maraerenga fought back but were unable to find target before David scored his second to seal the 3-1 win for Nikao Sokattak.

In the other premier men’s division matches, Matavera with an inspired second half performance scored three unanswered goals against Titikaveka on Friday afternoon.

And for this first time this year, Avatiu were able to overcome Puaikura in front of the home crowd, beating them 2-1.

In the Islander senior women’s competition, Tupapa Maraerenga edged Titikaveka out in a close race to win the division prize.

Tupapa Maraerenga Football Club also took out the DJ Gas U17 men’s division while Puaikura Football Club managed to snatch the BSP U14 boys and BSP U14 girls division titles.

Titikaveka won the Prime Foods U11 mixed division, whilst Avatiu emerged as the 2018 Round Cup Champions after defeating Puaikura in their final matchup of the competition.

Overall, it’s been another incredible season filled with plenty of surprising and interesting results and most of all, quality football action across all divisions.
