Tupapa survive last-minute scare

The Tupapa Maraerenga premier men’s side survived a late scare from Titikaveka to salvage a 3-2 win at the CIFA Complex on Saturday.

Tupapa Maraerenga came out strongly in the opening spell but were unsuccessful with the opportunities they created.

Parmesh Naidu had Titikaveka’s first chance, but Tupapa Maraerenga goalkeeper Sunai Joseph blocked the effort.

Titikaveka had a couple more scoring opportunities, but were unsuccessful. Tupapa Maraerenga steadily increased the pressure on Titikaveka as the first half wore on. Their hard work paid off in the 40th minute when Paavo Mustonen scored the opener.

Tupapa Maraerenga led 1-0 at the break.

The side started the second spell with two quick goals in the 53rd and 54th minute. Grover Harmon scored Tupapa’s second goal of the game, assisted by Lee Harmon and Mustonen scored the third.

Titikaveka was able to respond quickly, though, courtesy of Teariki Piri in the 62nd minute. The side maintained the pressure and managed to get their second goal in the 87th minute through Pastor Zekaria.

Tupapa Maraerenga held on to win 3-2.

In the other premier men’s matches, Puaikura defeated Matavera 2-1 at the Takitumu School field, while Nikao Sokattak beat Avatiu 5-3.
