Max points for Tupapa vs Puaikura

Monday September 24, 2018 Written by Published in Soccer

The wet weather may have dampened the Tupapa Maraerenga and Puaikura clash over the weekend, but it wasn’t enough to deter Tupapa Maraerenga from gaining maximum points in the Van’s Premier Men's Round Cup Competition.

Puaikura came out aggressively and on the offensive from the get-go, pushing the ball into Tupapa Maraerenga’s territory early.

Puaikura found their first big scoring opportunity in the 7th minute as Pekay Edwards and Conroy Tiputoa got a few cracks at the goal from inside the box, however the first attempt was blocked and the defence snuffed out the second.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough from Puaikura who lacked the finishing touch in the opportunities they created in the match.

It was not all one-way, the lively Geosah George saw an effort picked off by the Puaikura goalkeeper in the 14th minute.

Tupapa Maraerenga gave as good as they got and there was plenty of goalmouth action at either end of the pitch

After a relentless effort and some desperate defending, the determined Tupapa Maraerenga side managed to score the first and only goal of the match in the 25th minute from Paavo Mustonen, sending a long-range kick past the Puaikura goalkeeper and into the net.

The end to end action continued in the second half with both teams pressing at every opportunity. A determined Puaikura team tried tirelessly to score a goal, but failed to convert on several close attempts.

Ultimately Tupapa Maraerenga were able to hang on to their lead, despite a brave Puaikura display.

The 1-0 victory moves Tupapa Maraerenga back into the number one spot on the points table.

In the other Van’s premier men’s matches Titikaveka caused an upset in their midweek clash with Nikao Sokattak. The match ended with Titikaveka winning with a full time score of three goals to one. Matavera defeated Avatiu 1-0.

In the Islander Senior Women’s Division, Tupapa Maraerenga defeated Puaikura three goals to one, Nikao Sokattak went down to Titikaveka 2-0. Avatiu thrashed Matavera 4-0.
