The competition continues to generate lots of surprises as teams are looking poised and determined to earn the maximum points to keep their championship title hopes well and truly alive.
In Group A in the men’s division, Avarua set off the second day of the competition with a 3-0 win over Atiu on Monday.
The team learned from their loss on Saturday and put up a much better performance.
However, Puaikura’s hopes of qualifying to the knockout stages are slowly fading. They faced a tough opponent in Aitutaki and were held to a 3-3 draw.
In Group B, the Mauke men’s team got their deserved win when they brushed aside Mitiaro with a 6-3 win.
They were relentless on attack and kept Mitiaro in defensive mode throughout the second half of the match.
Takitumu also won 5-1 against Mangaia in what was an exciting contest.
In the Group A women’s competition, Avarua defeated Atiu 5-0.
In the other match, Aitutaki scored first against Puaikura and it looked like they were going to walk away with the win but the team from the west side managed to tie the game before the final whistle. The game ended with a 1-1 draw.
The championship ends this Saturday.
