It was a satisfying end for the Nikao Sokattak’s premier men’s team, who came into the day a point ahead of Puaikura, needing only a win to secure their placing
On a windy and rainy day, they still managed to dominate and defeat Matavera 3-0 to secure their top-four finish.
Nikao Sokattak striker Julius David enjoyed a productive away day by scoring twice.
He and Nathan Tisam scored the goals. Home team Matavera dominated action in the opening minute of the first half, putting on a show of passing and ball movement that led to a threatening attack which was quickly taken apart by Nikao Sokattak’s defence. However, for the remainder of the match Nikao Sokattak began to control possession and never allowed Matavera a good look at the goal. In the fourth minute of the first half Julius David received a pass and immediately fired a grounded shot into the bottom right corner of the net, scoring the only goal of the half.
Nikao Sokattak came out looking aggressive in the second half, putting Matavera on their heels, Julius scores again just four minutes into the period. It was the visitors who had the better of the opportunities and given Nikao Sokattak’s relentless pressure, a goal seemed inevitable. One soon came off the boot of Nathan Tisam.
Matavera was out-matched from start to finish.
The outcome of that game spoiled an impressive 8-3 win from Puaikura over Titikaveka.
