An experienced Avatiu team were 2-0 up at their home ground just past the half-hour mark until the visitors, a side packed with attacking talent, recovered to win 6-3.
In the first half, both teams showed early signs of nerves as they proved reluctant to risk a defensive lapse and were unwilling to commit too much to an all-out offensive attack.
As time wound down, the attack ramped up, and soon both teams began to look for any chance at slipping a goal past their opponents.
C. Kumar, the striker for Avatiu, opened the scoring with speed and skill, as he worked his way past the defenders and powered a shot into the net.
He then got his second goal the same way five minutes later.
After 38 minutes, Matavera put a free kick into the box that was spilled by the Avatiu goal keeper, resulting in a goal for the visitors.
The teams were evenly-matched in the first half, with Avatiu taking a 2-1 lead into the half on goals.
The visitors came out in the second half with a more aggressive approach, and they quickly began to dominate the game.
Paul-luiz van Ejik was instrumental in making things happen for Matavera throughout and eventually got his personal reward by leveling the score and giving his team the lead.
Avatiu would tie the game with another goal, but the score was short-lived, as Van Ejik scored his third goal just a minute later.
This time a lapse in concentration at the back allowed Matavera forward Darryl Areai to put away another shot at goal.
The celebrations behind the goals attested to both Matavera’s dominance and the resilience within the side.
Avatiu were unable to affect the tempo and Matavera continued to look like scoring with each attack.
The visiting team took advantage of a few second-half miscues to outlast Avatiu 6-3.
In the other Premier men’s match Nikao Sokattak stunned the defending champions Puaikura, handing them their second lost for this football season 2-0, and Titikaveka and Takuvaine battled to a 2-2 draw.
