After three days of round football competition, the Kia Orana Youth Football Festival heads into the semifinals today in the under-16 boys and girl’s Pool A and B divisions.

The stakes are high as the semifinalists are aware that a defeat will most certainly eliminate them from any chance of winning the silverware in the inaugural 2017 Kia Orana Youth Football Festival.

Teams who have booked their spot in the semifinal, will face do-or-die matches at the CIFA Complex in Matavera.

In the opening semis, the U16 girls division Pool A winner Aitutaki will face-off against Pool B runner up, Ellerslie Mustangs at 1pm.

Aitutaki cruised to the top of Pool A after beating Avatiu, Mangaia, Tupapa Maraerenga and Puaikura in exemplary fashion, while their opponent Ellerslie Mustangs went down to Beachlands Fury to finish second in their pool.

In the second semis, Pool B winner Beachlands Fury will battle the ladies from the wild west – Puaikura, which finished second in Pool A.

In the U16 boys’ division semifinals which kick off at 3.20pm, the dynamic Takitumu Pirates will take on the lads from Mangaia.

The Pirates proved their dominance at their first meet against Tupapa Maraerenga, defeating them by 1-0 in Pool A.

The last of the semis games promises to be an electrifying battle between Puaikura and Tupapa Maraerenga, with captains vowing to put up a strong challenge for the coveted title.

Puaikura have demonstrated their supremacy from their first match of the festival to finish on top of Pool B, while Tupapa Maraerenga managed second place in Pool A.

Despite the result from today’s semis, the losing teams will get another opportunity to prove their point at in the Kia Orana Youth Football Festival.
