School contest to begin

The annual Rarotonga Primary School Soccer Competition is set to kick off on Wednesday next week at the Takitumu School grounds.


The annual competition will start with the Origin Gas Senior one-day soccer tournament for Year 7 and 8 (Form 1 and 2), setting the tone for this year’s Primary School Soccer Competition.

The senior competition will commence at 3.30pm with participating teams from Apii Avarua, Apii Nikao, Apii Arorangi, Apii Te Uki Ou, Nukutere, Papaaroa and Titikaveka College battling it out for top honours in the A Boys and A Girls divisions.

The junior one-day soccer tourney for grades 4, 5 and 6 will take place the following week on Wednesday, March 29 at the Takitumu School grounds with games kicking off at 8.45am.

Schools participating in the event are Apii Arorangi, Apii Avarua, Apii Imanuela Akatemia, Apii Nikao, Papaaroa College, Apii Rutaki, Apii St Joseph, Apii Takitumu and Apii Te Uki Ou in the four division B Boys, B Girls, B Mix and C Mix.

The CIFA technical department have visited all the participating schools for the past five weeks, coaching and polishing their football skills.

The annual competition will give CIFA technical department the opportunity to identify and select players to participate in its development programmes which have been running since February.

For those who don’t necessarily play the game at the club level, this is a chance to enjoy football.

All supporters and parents are requested to come down and show their support for their child, school and enjoy some fun football.
