Extreme wet weather on Saturday forced a decision on the referee to stop play in the 30th minute of the premier men’s final between Puaikura and Avatiu at the CIFA Complex in Matavera.

Torrential rain came in swiftly during the early stages of the CIFA Knockout grand finale creating risky conditions for players of both teams as the pitch began to flood.

Puaikura was ahead 1-0, with Avatiu also getting some shots on target, but conditions on the field worsened making it virtually impossible to play on.

The game was immediately called off following a corner kick from Puaikura and players retreated from the soggy pitch to head back to camp while an announcement was made for a replay on Wednesday.

Football die-hard fans may have been a little disappointed to not see the game through to the very end; however, they will be keen to see how it plays out the next time the two sides meet.

Earlier in the day, the junior age-group and senior women’s division teams took the pitch to produce some football drama, with the Under-11 mixed match setting the tone for the much anticipated clash between Tupapa Maraerenga and Puaikura.

Tupapa won the U11 mixed beating Puaikura side 1-0.

And the winning didn’t stop there for the Tupapa Maraerenga Football Club who also celebrated victories in the U14 girls and boys divisions, as well as the senior women.

Up against last year’s champion Nikao Sokattak, Tupapa made a valiant comeback in the second half to win the pulsating showdown 2-1.

Nikao which dominated the opening half led 1-0 at the break.

Tupapa looked a much better side in the second half and some determined breaks from their midfield play saw them scoring twice to win the clash.

The 2-1 win gave the side a clean sweep this season winning all the women’s titles.

On Friday afternoon the U8 mixed division squared off in their final match, which saw Titikaveka continue in their winning ways with a 1-0 victory over a strong Takuvaine side.

Following their clash it was the Nikao Sokattak U17 men’s team who overcame a tough Titikaveka squad 1-0.
