The defending champions were sitting on second by goal difference and went on to gain maximum points on Saturday after their successful 2-0 victory over Takuvaine.
But that wasn’t the only help they received over the weekend to see them rise above competition leader Nikao Sokattak on points.
Titikaveka, who hosted Nikao last Thursday, secured their fourth win when they came out successful with a 3-1 win.
The outstanding performance of Titikaveka caused Nikao some frustration and cost them their lead.
Nikao has so far lost two matches from the eight they have played, while Tupapa have automatically shot to top with the perfect unbeaten run in seven games.
The side has 21 points with a game in hand while Nikao remains on 18 points.
The future may look a little grim for Nikao at this stage, but with the season still in play, both teams cannot afford a loss in the competition.
In the Van’s Premiership, Puaikura stretched their winning streak with a 3-1 win over Matavera on Saturday while Nikao Sokattak returned to winning ways after beating Titikaveka 4-2.
Tomorrow, Tupapa Maraerenga will take on Takuvaine in their round 10 match at the Takuvaine Valley.
Both teams are now in a close race with Puaikura who are leading on 19 points ahead of Tupapa on 18 and Takuvaine on 16.
