The match between Town and Country will be played in Juniors U11 and U9s, U13, U16, U19, Senior B and Senior A grades.
Cook Islands Rugby Union development manager Ben Koteka said this was the first time they would have such a start to the weekly Rarotonga club rugby competition.
The Country team will be made up of players from Arorangi, Titikaveka and Ngatangiia, while the Town team will comprise players from Tupapa, Takuvaine and Avatiu.
Country Senior A team will be managed by Pare Rongokea and Francis Smith, while Andrew Iroa, Vase Samania and Clive Nicholas will look after the Town team.
“This pre-season session will allow players to get into the weekly competition mode,” said Koteka. “We know teams are preparing for the club competition and this weekend’s matches will give them an idea of where their players stand ahead of round one, which will be held next weekend.”
Meanwhile, the Cook Islands Rugby Referees Association received some timely support ahead of the 2018 season.
This Wednesday the association received new outfits for their volunteer referees, courtesy of Arama Wichman and the team at Cook Islands Building Supplies.
CIRU thanked the team at Cook Islands Building Supplies for supporting rugby in the Cook Islands.
