The U18 Cook Islands Schools team are in preparation mode this week camping at the Manukau Congregation Church Hall in preparation for the one-day U18 World Schools Sevens Tournament to be played in Auckland on Friday (CI time).

Last weekend a group of Rarotonga-based players (David Napa, Tangi and Brian Akava, Thomas Daniel, Germaine Pepe, Tomasi Bikaca, Repoama Ponga) left Rarotonga to be part of the final selection process.

This involved 20 players, including other CI players from around New Zealand, as they looked to sneak into the 12-man squad that will be named this week to represent their nation at thes tournament.

This the second year that the Cook Islands have been invited to participate in this tournament. It is not only a great opportunity to showcase age-grade talent, but also provides the opportunity to enjoy the spirit of fair play and friendship that only rugby sevens can bring.

The U18 team will play a “hit out” match on Thursday against Canada before the tournament starts.  The CI team will play Australia at 10.54am, NZ Maori at 12.24am and the Fiji Barbarians at 2.48pm (CI time).

Only the top two teams from each pool will progress to the semi-finals.
