Today will see the final round of games in the club rugby competition being played with all Senior A Grade teams hungry to win and build confidence and momentum heading into next weekend’s semi-finals.

At the Takuvaine ‘Happy Valley’ field, the Takuvaine Reds will take on the Titikaveka Bulls in the CITC game of the week.

In this top of the table clash these two 2013 surprise package teams face off in an all-important encounter.

The player to watch out for is the Reds’ veteran first 5/8 Vase Samania. With the Reds now starting to establish forward dominance over all opposition expect big games from loosehead prop Victor Mataora and number 8 Travel Tou.

For the Bulls, watch for the under-rated hard working captain and prop Josh MacDonald to set the platform for his fleet-footed backline of wingers Vatu Sika and Juda Lokiand also midfielder James Tofilau to score the points.

At Avatiu field, arch-rivals the Avatiu Eels and the Arorangi Cowboys will face off, which is sure to continue the tradition of tough and entertaining rugby.

Players to watch are the Eels’ ‘brains trusts’ of Terry Piri, Mark Charlie, and Clive Nicholas who are sure to be at the front of any Eels raid.

For the Cowboys, watch out for their devastating open side flanker Waisoi Koroi and his partner in crime number 8 and Captain Pierre Rongokea who could wreak havoc among the opposition defences.

At the Tupapa field, the Tupapa Panthers will take on the Matavera Dragons in a bottom of the table clash. This will be a battle of pride – neither team (previously both regular top four teams) will want to finish the season with a loss.

All senior A Grade games will observe a minute’s silence out of respect for Navy Epati, who sadly passed away last weekend.

Nicknamed Maroro (flying fish), Navy featured on the wing for his beloved Tupapa Panthers and also the national 7s and 13s team in the early 1990s.

Our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers are with the Epati family at this time.

Best of luck to all teams this weekend. - CIRU
