After 45 years in New Zealand, Teremoana Tutini fondly known as Papa Neke returned to his island of birth Mitiaro in 1999 with just his bags and a tent. Now 82, he has two houses and a self-sufficient garden locally known as the Garden of Eden. He is at peace, and loves the simple quietness of life. Melina Etches finds out more during her recent visit to the island.
Work has begun on upgrading the water and power lines at Avatiu harbour in preparation for the new police patrol boat. The tail end of ex-tropical Cyclone Sarai smashed the western side of Rarotonga on New Year’s Day. With boats docked in the port hammered by the sea swells; the police patrol boat Te Kukupa shunted its mooring due to the extreme weather. Pictured here are workers constructing the bollard. The contractor for the project is the McConnell Dowell Construction Company. 20021306
