Kitelicious finished on top in a closely contested Oe Vaka V12 Corporate Challenge 2018 on Saturday at Vaiana’s in Nikao.

They took line honours after a cracker of a day on the water, with two-times winners Vaiana’s in a close second place, followed by Topshape in third, with Prime Foods rounding out the top four.

The finalists had to dig deep after the final was re-run because one of the crews had a paddle snap off the start line.

But this did not affect the outcome in what was definitely one of the more competitive corporate challenges.

Kitelicous also took out the fastest time of the day with 55.34 seconds, and also won the prize for best-dressed team.

In the final of the services/hospitality section, Kitelicious once again managed the top place finish to add to their swag of prizes, with Prime Foods, who put in two crews, coming in second and fourth, with Vaiana’s in third place.

Off the water, the competition for the tug of war was fierce, with the powerful Vaiana’s crew pulling their way to victory.

Seventeen teams took part in the corporate challenge, with the Ministry of Health fielding three crews in their first corporate paddle, and getting to race off against each other in a battle of the health crews.

The biggest cheers of the day went to the Creative Centre crew, who paddled their hearts out.

Cook Islands Canoeing Association (CICA) events organiser Eva Allsworth thanked all the teams who took part.

She also thanked the event sponsors Vaiana’s Bar & Bistro and Island Car & Bike Hire, and all the CICA volunteers who assisted to make the day a success.

The proceeds from the day will be going towards the ongoing development of oe vaka in the Cook Islands.

This will be the only corporate paddle challenge for 2018, with the 2019 challenge expected to bring even more teams and more exciting V12 racing.
