Fundraiser for paddling team

Monday March 27, 2017 Written by Published in Paddling

The Cook Islands master men and junior men paddling squad fundraiser this morning is not to be missed.

The Mega Garage Sale from 8.30am to 1pm has everything to entice the whole family, from pre-loved clothing and homeware to a car wash.

Those wanting to test their skills at outrigger canoeing can take advantage of the $5 paddling trips departing Jacks wharf throughout the morning.

Pre-sold plates of yummy Tahitian sashimi and Chinese raw fish for only $12 will be available for pick-up from Michele’s Cafe at the Punanga Nui Market from 8am to 10am.

The fundraiser is for the national master men and junior men competing in the inaugural International Va’a Federation Worlds Distance Championships to be held in Tahiti this June.

Racing a 27km race respectively, the master men and junior men will be competing against top teams from 30 countries.

Trials will be held next month to determine which of the trialling athletes will be chosen to represent the Cook Islands as the single V1 (rudderless canoe) paddler for the master men and junior men categories, racing 18km.

The fundraising event today will assist with accommodation and transport costs for the teams in Tahiti.

People are encouraged to come down and support the fundraiser this morning.  Pick up a new treasure, get your car or bike cleaned and enjoy the delicious taste of Tahiti.
