POLYNESIAN Rentals’ Green Machine emerged champions in the Cook Islands Canoeing Association (CICA) Vaka Corporate Race Day at Vaiana’s Beach Bar in Nikao over the weekend.

The side finished on top in both the retail and service versus government and hospitality final and the main grand final on Saturday.

Manuia B Bites (Manuia Beach Resort) finished second in the retail and service versus government and hospitality final followed by Pacific Squad (Pacific Resort) and Ocean Power (Te Aponga Uira) in third and fourth places, respectively.

In the grand final, 21.3 Vaianas finished second followed by BTBiers (BTIB) in third and I Object (Law Society) in fourth place.

CICA events manager Chrissy Thomas was pleased with the turnout of teams from government, hospitality, service and retail sectors.

“It was another successful and awesome day of oe vaka V12 sprints and tug-o-war competition. A big meitaki maata to Bluesky for the prizes, which ranged from $75, $50 and $25 credit vouchers for all placing crew members,” Thomas said.

“A big thank you to Vaiana’s for such a great location and food and beverage vouchers for our other prize winners. Funds raised will be distributed among the clubs to prepare for Matson Vaka Eiva from November 18 to 25.”

Champion female paddler Serena Hunter was also pleased with the turnout and the display from the participating teams.

“The powerhouse team of Polynesian Rentals Green Machine was just too strong at the end of the day, taking out both the retail and service versus government and hospitality final, and the overall grand final in a super-fast time of 47.36 seconds,” Hunter said.

“Te Aponga Ocean Power also showed their power on land taking out the fiercely contested tug of war. Best dressed team went to BSP in their awesome bright green getup. An awesome day held by all. Meitaki maata to sponsors Bluesky and Vaiana’s 21.3.”
