The Cook Islands Canoeing Association (CICA) is holding one of its regular competitions this Saturday.

The competition which will be hosted by Live Free club at Avarua harbour will be a V6 10 kilometre marathon.

The V6 men’s and women’s competition is one of CICA’s regular long-distance races held every second Saturday for the Oe Vaka clubs to compete for points. Distances vary in the competitions, which are used to prepare clubs for the Vaka Eiva event in November.

Clubs which are rotated to host the event handle registrations, time-keeping duties and running of the competition.

There are also alternate mixed races during the week on Wednesday for new paddlers.

This Saturday’s race will begin at 2pm. Registration starts at 1.30pm with race fees of $5 for seniors and $2 for juniors.

Two bailers per canoe and approved life vest for juniors under 15 years are required.

Members of the Team Cook Islands vaka team who competed in the Pacific Games are likely to feature in the contest.
