SERENA Hunter has finally broken Team Cook Islands’ hoodoo at the Pacific Games, winning the country’s first gold medal in the regional meet at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea yesterday.

She finished first in the V1 10 kilometre marathon to add to her bronze medal she won in the V1 500m sprints event earlier in the week.

In the men’s V1 15km marathon, Cook Islands’ Kuki Airani settled for bronze medal after falling behind paddlers from Tahiti and New Caledonia. In the medal tally update as of yesterday, Team Cook Islands had a gold, a silver and 10 bronze medals.

Host PNG still leads on 32 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze medals followed by Tahiti with 16 gold, 13 silver and nine bronze medal. Samoa is in third place with 14 gold and 14 silver medals.
