The ever-popular annual corporate oe vaka races will be held in Nikao this year and are sure to be as much fun on and off the water as previous years.

A change in venue for the annual oe vaka corporate races from Muri to Nikao lagoon is expected to add to the family ‘fun in the sun’ day.

The must-do corporate event of the year will be staged on March 14 with registrations now open.

The event has always been a popular day of paddling fun for local businesses that enter the event as a team bonding exercise and it’s also the major fundraiser for the Cook Islands Canoeing Association.

Twelve-man canoes are raced over a 250m sprint course, providing plenty of action for spectators as teams go all-out to outdo each other, both on and off the water.

Past events have attracted up to 30 corporate teams and organisers are hoping for more this year, especially with the new spacious location at Nikao beach right in front of Vaiana’s Bar and Grill – one of the event’s newest sponsors.

The move to Nikao has largely been due to developments in Muri, but organisers are positive about the exciting new location for the corporate races.

Teams that enter will also have an opportunity to train a little for the fun event.
