Israel Miles and Kate Hall (pictured) won the 2020 Rarotonga Sailing Club Sunburst Championships held on Saturday in Muri.

The windy conditions provided speedy sailing conditions, says Club captain Gareth Clayton: “The club Sunburst champs brought out the best in our tough competitors. While the wind was great for fast sailing, the rain and cold provided an extra challenge. Over the course of six races we saw plenty of skilled and spirited sailing from our crews out on the water.

“Congratulations to Israel Miles and Kate Hall for taking out the top honours, and to brother and sister team George and Grace Newman-Holt who came in second, followed by the team of Max McDonald and Sheldon Milner in third place.

“With the National Sunburst Championships just around the corner, this regatta revealed who’s in-form before the teams go head to head again later this month.”

The Sunburst is a two-handed, 3.5 metre (11 ft) sailing dinghy. The boat is popular with beginner and practised sailors.
