Those participating for the first time were excited to be part of the colourful team of runners.
Michael Kromwyk from Australia dressed as Mario: “My costume is light and airy”, he grins.
He heard of the event two years when visiting Rarotonga, and had planned and trained to be here to run the RRRR for the first time.
The visiting Hula team from Auckland, New Zealand, made the effort to dress in the island theme for the fun race.
For some of them, this will be their initiation to the race.
The oldest member of the group is 70, confident, and looking forward to competition.
The group are all taking part in the 31km Round the Island event on Saturday.
The full Round Raro race starts at 5.30am tomorrow, with the 10km walk/run beginning at 7.30am at the Bahai centre in Muri.
