Catch of the day

Jason Tuara’s mega whopping 415.5kg (916.1775 pounds) marlin is a sure thing for our record books.

Although not quite a ‘grander’, Tuara is wowed, thrilled, elated and understandably over the moon at his catch. Euphoric, Tuara said, “when the fight was over, I thought, this has to be my biggest fish… and it is”.

The massive fish was hooked near the Tikioki Fishing Aggregate Device (FAD), it took a 3 hour intense struggle with a rod and reel using floats ‘poito’ to end the battle about 3.30pm, 5 miles out from where it was baited. Fishing solo on his boat Taeao, Tuara towed the marlin into Avana harbour and used his trailer to bring the marlin ashore to be weighed.
