The women teed off on the number one tee at the Royal Samoa Golf Course in Fagali'i, while the men started at the tenth tee.
“It was a pretty good outing for team, we still have 54 holes to go, but it was a good start on day one,” said team manager Ned Howard.
Ned’s daughter Rotana Howard finished top amongst the women, scoring 59, seven over par. Katey Karati finished on 80, Memory Akama scored 84, and Rowena Newbigiing ended up on 85.
In the men’s, Chris Williamson ended day one just two over on 74, Matai Jojo Karati was one behind on 75, and Dan Webb and William Howard both finished on 76.
The team will play again today and tomorrow. Rain is once again forecasted to hit Apia.
“We will know more about where we stand after tomorrow and day three,” Howard said.
The gold medals events for golf will be held on Saturday (CI time).
