TEAM Cook Islands added another Pacific Games bronze medal to its tally – this time in the water paddling the va’a.

Andre Tutaka-George stepped up to the podium after placing third in the men's V1 500m final, held at Mulifanua on Samoa's west coast.

Glassy conditions made for an exciting race, with the paddlers displaying their explosive strength from the start. Tutaka-George started strong and held pace with leader Kevin Ceran Jerusalemy from Tahiti for most of the race. However, the Tahitian pulled away over the last stretch, eventually winning by six seconds.

The battle for silver was closely contested, with Tutaka-George narrowly missing out by just two seconds. Tahiti and New Caledonia continued to display their dominance in the va'a event, claiming first and second respectively.

In the other va'a finals, the women's V6 500m narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in their race. Iona Turia was also unlucky, placing fifth in the women's V1 500m final.
