To help celebrate Olympic Week, CINews will be profiling some of our athletes who have represented the Cook Islands on the biggest sporting stage.

Petero Okotai

Swimming, 100m breaststroke

Olympic Games: Beijing 2008

Occupation: CEO Cook Island Investment Corporation (CIIC)

Education: University of Auckland, business, first-class honours

Hobbies: What’s a hobby?

What inspires you? Pushing my limits.

How would your friends describe you? I don’t care what they say.

Favourite Marvel superhero? Hulk.

What do you do in your free time? I have no free time.

If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be and why? A human, because we are at the top of the food chain. Until the robots take over.

Memorable moment in your sports career? Every time I threw up during training (it happened quite a bit). There is a weird high you experience after, because you know you’ve pushed yourself to the limit.

If you could solve one thing in the Cook Islands, what would it be? Ignorance.

Something surprising about yourself? I am not a spy.

Something you are passionate about? My daughter.
