After just two weeks, a number of cyclists have taken up the challenge and conquered two tracks in a social ride organised by the Cook Islands Triathlon Association (CITAI).
The opening weekend saw less than 10 athletes take part, but after last weekend’s ride a strong contingent of 16 jumped on board.
CITAI president Roland Neururer said the first two events were a solid success.
“We have organised the rides with the support of Ride Rarotonga and it has been a great event so far.
“The event is not a race but more of a social fun ride with medium to hard hills to climb, lots of water crossings and mud corners to go through.”
Last weekend’s race took cyclists through the same course that was used for the men’s triathlon race earlier in the year – in and around the Takitumu Conservation Area, followed by Avaavaroa and Totokoitu, before completing the entire track backwards to finish at the Tikioki Tri site.
This Saturday the next ride will start at Wigmore’s Super Store in Vaimaanga at 3pm.
It is approximately 18 kilometres long and is expected to finish at 4.30pm.
Each ride is open to any member of the public and is free of charge – simply bring your bike, helmet and a smile.
