Vae Unuka claimed the Vonnia’s golf tournament held at the Rarotonga Golf Club course in Nikao last weekend.

The tournament on Saturday had 93 members competing.

Unuka, with a whopping 77 gross and winning 42 stableford points, walked away with the top prize, a brand-new Stihl chainsaw, courtesy of sponsor Vonnia’s.

“This is the best prize I have won,” he said after receiving the prize from Vonnia’s chief executive officer Yvonne Heather.

Rarotonga Golf Club president George George said the sponsorship from Vonnia’s “had blown our golf members’ minds away”.

“Even some golfers from New Zealand that were there couldn’t believe the prizes that Vonnia’s and their many suppliers, especially Stihl, had on offer last Saturday at the prizegiving,” George said.

“The total value was up to $4000 and boy were they awesome. We certainly want to thank Yvonne and Nia Heather for an excellent tournament.”

Today the members will compete in the Rarotonga Brewery Tournament, which will be played on nett.

George said Rarotonga Brewery was one of their new sponsors.

“There will be a beer tent on the number five tee – it’s a $6 combo for beer and sausage sizzle and all funds will be donated back to our club for renovations.

“Come on board and welcome our new sponsor by showing them how much we love golf.”
