A mixture of local and overseas players descended on the Rarotonga Bowling Club last weekend for a social roll up.

This is the sixth year a group of Australians from the Sunshine Coast, as part of a tour, organised by Uplift Tours and Travel, have visited the island for a week of both fun in the sun and some social lawn bowls in between.

This year saw a total of 18 bowlers, 14 Australians and four Kiwis, including New Zealand world champion and 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jo Edwards and her husband Dave, who was the national coach for New Zealand, stepping down in 2016.

While here on the island, the group also visited Apii Arorangi to introduce school children to the sport of lawn bowls, as well as enjoying a trip on a Koka Lagoon Cruise and an island night at the Edgewater Resort and Spa.

Saturday saw the conclusion to the bowls competition, with a four’s competition being run.

For the day’s play, two visiting players were paired with two local players.

The event was run by Destination Management Cook Islands, who have also been a part of the event for the last six years alongside the bowls club committee.
