Tennis Cook Islands’ development programme is expected to reach another level with a strong line up of younger players set to break into the national squad next year.

Head coach Malcolm Kajer said, a strong development programme had produced some superb results this year.

Tennis Cook Islands experienced major success in the Pacific Oceania Junior Championship in Fiji in August.

Jesse Toa (Bumble), and Maka Maui were victorious in their matches against the Pasifika Boys team, winning the Oceania Junior Boys 12 and under championships.

The Cook Islands girls team, consisting of Moana Une and Te-Akaiti Toa, were placed second in the Girls 12 and under team event, with first place going to the East Pacific Girls.

The national players also performed extremely well in the Oceania Regional Championships, playing for the East Pacific Team.

Maui later competed in the Australian Nationals where he received praise for his performance.

The year ended on a high with an excellent performance from the national team especially Te-Akaiti Toa at the Auckland Xmas Junior Tennis Tournament earlier this month.

She won the 12 and under doubles title and finished third in the singles competition at the annual event.

Toa competed in the tournament alongside Rarotonga-based Arikitoa Allsworth, Paulo Allsworth and Christopher Neururer, who all recorded respectable results.

“The key to success is my strict coaching and the dedication of the players. We try every time to better our results and I’m proud of the youngsters who are able to achieve them,” said Kajer.

He thanked ANZ Bank, Bluesky Cook Islands, and Tennis Cook Islands for their support throughout 2017.
