Newly-appointed association president Roland Neururer said the season starts tomorrow with the duathlon - run, bike, run.
However, he said for those wanting to give triathlon a go, there will be a special Try a Tri Day to be held this Saturday at the Tikioki Tri Site, near Fruits of Rarotonga, starting at 3pm.
“This is a chance for everyone and anyone wanting to see what triathlon is all about, to come and give some or all of it a go,” Neururer said.
“You can swim, paddle board, backstroke or dog paddle the swim, mountain bike or tri bike the cycle course and then run, walk or crawl the run course.
“There will be smaller or longer distances for each discipline and you can do all or one or two of each discipline. It’s up to you, and it’s a chance to Try a Tri!”
During the season, there will be a variety of events including men’s triathlon, women’s triathlon and corporate teams’ triathlon.
Alongside these events, the Cook Islands Triathlon will also host the major Air New Zealand Rarotonga Triathlon at the end of the season in May, 2018.
“So come on down on Saturday, please bring any gear you need (goggles, swim cap, SUP, bike, running shoes) and of course a change of clothes and a mat for afterwards,” Neururer said.
“There will be a gold coin donation sausage sizzle run by the CITAI. And feel free to bring along any other refreshments you may want.
“It’s all about giving it a go and realising it is a lot of fun, while getting a little fit at the same time.
“So come and Try a Tri!”
