Premier basketball starts tonight

The Cook Islands Basketball Premier Men’s and Women’s competitions will tip off tonight at the Bluesky Sports Arena.

Registrations can be completed at the stadium for teams that have yet to register.

After a successful mixed competition, the Cook Islands Basketball Federation intends to continue the five-a-side game with two full rounds plus finals for both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Meanwhile, the Cook Islands are being represented at the Asia Indoor Games by the women’s 3X3 team, which competed last year at the World Championships in China.

3X3 basketball is a fast growing discipline based on half-court “street ball”, now to be featured in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Closer to home, the Pacific Mini Games will include 3X3 basketball for the first time this year in Vanuatu in December, where the Cook Islands will be represented by both a men’s and a women’s team.

Look out for more local 3X3 action in the coming months.

A draw for the Premier Competitions will be posted to the Cook Islands Basketball Facebook page.
