Young tennis players compete in Fiji

Six young tennis players flew to Fiji last week to compete in the Pacific Oceania Junior Tennis Championships in Lautoka.


The squad qualified for the tournament after winning the best in the region at the East Pacific Championship in Auckland in June. Below are the results from day one and three (day two was cancelled).

Day one:

Team event 12 & under Girls Singles:

TeAkaiti Toa, Cook Islands Girls, played Mahina Warren, East Pacific Girls - TeAkaiti won her match 7-6. (5). 2-6. 11-9

Girls Team Event 12 & Under:

Cook Islands Girls, Moana Une, played Vaiani Dussere-Vallau, East Pacific Girls - Moana lost 2-6. 0-6

Team Event, Girls 12 & Under Doubles:

Cook Islands Girls played East Pacific Girls, Cook Islands Girls won: 6-4. 7-5.

Team Event Boys 12 & under:

Maka Maui, Cook Islands Boys, played Heremana Courte, Pasifika Boys - Maka lost 7-6. 4-6. 3-10.

Team Event, 12 & under:

Jesse Toa (Bumble), Cook Islands Boys, played Jones George, Pacific Boys - Jesse won: 7-6. 6-7. 10-8.

Team Event Boys Doubles 12 & under:

Cook Islands Boys, Maki Maui and Jesse Toa played Pasifika Boys - Cook Islands Boys won, 6-3. 7-6 (5).

Team Even 12 & under singles:

Arikitoa Allsworth East Pacific Boys played Storm Cornish Pacific Training Centre Boys - Arikitoa lost. 6-4, 6-3

Team Event Boys 12 & and under Doubles:

East Pacific Boys, Arikitoa was paired with Ariitoa Cottie, played Pacific Training Centre Boys - Arikitoa & Ariitoa won, 6-3. 4-6. 9-11.

In the Boys 16 & under Singles:

Elijah Amataiti Cook Islands, played Ken Song, Northern Mariana Islands - Elijah lost 6-1. 6-1.

No doubles were played by Elijah.

Day two:

Maka Maui won 6-3, 6-0

Jesse Toa won 6-0, 6-1

Moana Une lost in super tiebreak 6-2, 0-6, 9-11

TeAkaiti Toa’s game was postponed due to rain after she won the first set 7-6
