‘Gunz’ fires in Palm Grove tournament

Kris “Gunz” Williamson continued his recent good form with a four under par 66 in the first round of the three-day Palm Grove sponsored gross tournament.

At five under, playing the par five 15th hole and chasing a course record, a three wood second shot to make the green in two and an attempt at eagle failed, with his ball sailing out of bounds. This resulted in a double bogey seven.

“Gunz” immediately bounced back with a “chip-in” birdie two on the 16th hole and parred the last two holes for his four under round.

He also won the daily bogey sweepstake with a + 7, the birdie twos as well as a nearest the pin on the 3rd and 12th holes. Tania Karati, Moe 1 and Ned Howard also won nearest the pins.

Kurai Foster, with a round of 78, had the best of the day for the ladies and Murray McDonald took out the veteran’s best round for the third week with a par 70. The long drives on handicap were won by Ken Matheson and Victoria. Nga Manuela won the lucky draw.

This week is round two of the Palm Grove tournament.
