TWELVE Cook Islanders will represent their country at this year’s South Pacific Bodybuilding competition to be held at Papeete in Tahiti next month.

In preparation for the upcoming tournament, Cook Islands Bodybuilding Federation president George George is calling on members of the public for their support.

Tomorrow, the federation will host a quiz night at the Rarotonga Golf Club to raise the funds needed for the Tahiti trip.

“The federation has received confirmation that the competition will take place in October,” said George.

“With the tight timeframe that we have, the athletes have been working hard-out in making sure they are in their best shape for the upcoming event.

“With Cook Islands’ past record in bodybuilding, we are hoping that our team will come back as proud winners and that is our hope and target come next month.”

Of the 12 athletes going to Tahiti, six are based in New Zealand and the remainder are from Rarotonga.

“The team will leave for Tahiti on October 27 and the competition will last three days,” said George.

“The federation will be host other fundraising drives before we head off next month. We are starting off with the quiz night this Wednesday at the Rarotonga Golf Club and there will be a golf ambrose event coming up as well,

“So we are really calling on members of the community to come forward and be part of this team support.

“We are looking at raising the much needed funds for our trip and we would appreciate every bit of help we can get.”
