Avatiu is ready to defend their premier title in the Rarotonga Netball Club competition against Titikaveka in the final today at the Arorangi courts.

The team has lost twice to Titikaveka in the preliminary rounds. The girls in blue have remained unbeaten.

Titikaveka finished on top after the round competition, playing eight matches and winning them all to amass 16 points while Avatiu finished second on 12 points.

Avatiu coach Sebon Nicholas said the team was ready and looking forward to the match.

Nicholas said seven Avatiu teams ranging from the 6 and under to premier division are playing in the finals. She said they were expecting a good number of support from their fans.

“There is a tremendous support out there and the girls can’t wait to play, they are ready,” Nicholas said.

Avatiu president Edith Nicholas said the side would put on their best discipline and take on the challenge as a team.

She said they were wary of the favoured Titikaveka side who have been among the elites in the past 20 years.

Edith said the Avatiu squad last won the championship in 2012 after 27 years before losing their grip on the top spot. But she added they have come up as rising contenders in every final.

“We are ready, we have a young side and with the likes of the current national reps Marjorie Toru and Luciana Nicholas they add the extra spark to the team.”

Meanwhile, Titikaveka lost in the semi-final round last year, while Avatiu won the final against Arorangi.

The Titikaveka team defeated Tupapa last week while Avatiu came through a narrow win against Arorangi.

The match between these two tough teams will be the much awaited netball battle of the season.

In the reserves grade final, Tupapa will take on Avatiu while Arorangi faces Avatiu in 17 and under grade.

In the 15U, Takuvaine will be up against Avatiu whole Titikaveka faces Tupapa in the 12U final.
