Netball Cook Islands has appointed former national rep Anna Andrews-Tasola as the new coach of the national team.

In a statement, the national netball governing body said Andrews-Tasola joins the Black Pearls with a wealth of skills and experience.

Apart from playing for the Cook Islands, notably at the 2007 Netball World Cup, and in club competition in New Zealand, she also possesses good coaching experience.

Andrews-Tasola is the current head coach of the Wellington-based PIC Netball Club, and assistant coach for the Beko League Wellington Central Zone team. She will be assisted by Rarotonga-based Sebon Will as assistant coach, Andrea Rongokea as team manager, and Talia Kipa as team physio.

Netball Cook Islands has also released an 11-member national squad to compete at the Pacific Nations Cup which will be held in Auckland, New Zealand later this month.

The tournament to be held from March 21-23 will be hosted by Netball Cook Islands, in conjunction with generous sponsorship from High Wire Charitable Trust. It will be played at the Phyllis Latour Doyle Stadium in Papakura.

The national team comprise 10 Rarotonga-based players and will be captained by Natalia Short.

“This is a non-ranking tournament, featuring teams from the Cook Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Aotearoa Maori, the New Zealand Defence Force, and the Stars of the Southern Cross – featuring our five scholarship recipients of Anania Piri, Daimzel Rongokea, Simone Nicholas, Marei Nicolas, and Tia Henderson,” NCI said in a statement.

“The team is made up of skilled and experienced players and features an exciting mix of young netballers, including five new caps which is fantastic for the development of the sport on the local scene.

“To any family and friends in the Auckland region, we encourage you to come down and support the team in their quest for glory, the stadium can be found at 7 Dent Place, Red Hill, Papakura.

“There is a gold coin for entry, which Netball Cook Islands has requested be donated back to Red Hill Primary School who have supported our team over the past two years.”

The team will depart Rarotonga on March 17.
