An emphatic performance by the Titikaveka Pearls has re-established their push towards back-to-back premier titles at the Rising Stars Netball Tournament.

Their 74-44 victory over the Flames will no doubt be a signal to the undefeated Avatiu Dragonflies that the Pearls are not giving up their 2017 title without a fight.

Strong performances from Alanna Smith at goal shoot and Patricia Taea controlling mid-court helped the Pearls maintain their lead throughout the match. No other matches were played in the premier competition.

In the 17U grade, the game of the round was the clash between Avatiu and the Tereora College A team. The Tereora girls continue to make strong progress, and were even leading Avatiu at one point, but were unable to put the finishing touches on the game.

Principal Tania Morgan said the signs are positive with each game the girls play.

“Every week our combinations are really clicking and the girls are lifting their game,” said Morgan.

“Fitness continues to hamper us, but we are continuing to work on that and have more trainings now that we are back in the swing of term three.”

Morgan said the A team were disappointed to finish with another loss but were pleased with aspects of their game on Saturday.

Meanwhile, their counterparts Tereora B faced off against Tupapa in the other match in the 17U grade, with the Panthers taking the win 36-18.

It was a strong first quarter from the B team, leading at the first quarter break, but like the A team, they weren’t able to consolidate their lead, with Tupapa eventually gaining momentum.
